Terms of Service

Agreement
These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of MasterTheBook at masterthebook.com and related applications. By creating an account, subscribing, or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use MasterTheBook.
The service
MasterTheBook provides AI-powered study guides, retrieval practice, adaptive spaced review, and coaching tools for nonfiction books. Features vary by plan. We may update, add, or remove features over time while keeping the core study experience available to paying subscribers.
Accounts
You must provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure. You may sign in with email (magic link or one-time code), password, Google, or Apple where available. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 13 years old to use MasterTheBook.
Subscriptions and billing
Paid plans renew monthly or annually through Stripe until you cancel from the billing portal in your account. You typically retain access through the end of the current paid period after cancellation. Plan limits (such as active books or coaching credits) are described at checkout and on the pricing page.
Free trial
New paid subscriptions start with a 14-day free trial. We collect a payment method at checkout but do not charge it during the trial. If you cancel before the trial ends, you are not charged. When the 14-day trial ends, your chosen plan's price is charged automatically unless you have canceled, and your subscription continues on the plan and billing period you selected. The free trial is separate from the free preview (which needs no card) and from the money-back guarantee below (which begins at your first charge).
Refunds
Paid subscriptions include a 14-day money-back guarantee from the date of your first charge — this is separate from, and begins after, the free trial. Email hello@masterthebook.com to request a refund within that window. Refunds outside the guarantee are handled at our discretion and are not guaranteed.
Legacy per-book purchases
If you purchased individual books before subscriptions were offered, those purchases remain available without an active subscription where our grandfather policy applies. Subscription features do not automatically replace or revoke lifetime book access you already paid for.
Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the service, attempt to bypass access controls or rate limits, scrape or bulk-download content, reverse engineer the platform, share account credentials, or interfere with other users or our infrastructure. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
Intellectual property
MasterTheBook owns the platform, software, and the original study-guide content we create — commentary, questions, explanations, and coaching prompts. Guides are original analysis about the books they cover; they are not a substitute for reading the book, and we do not host full book text, page scans, or downloadable copies of the work. Short, attributed quotations may appear rarely where they support commentary. For U.S. public-domain works, quotation is unrestricted by copyright; for in-copyright works, we keep any quotation short and attributed and do not claim that practice is legally risk-free. Book titles and author names are used only to identify which guide covers which book. The books themselves, and any trademarks associated with them, remain the property of their respective authors and publishers. You may not redistribute, resell, or publicly republish MasterTheBook's guide content. See our Copyright & Content Concerns policy for more detail.
AI coaching disclaimer
AI coaching is an educational aid, not professional, legal, medical, or financial advice. Model outputs may be incomplete or incorrect. You are responsible for verifying important claims against primary sources. Assessment guardrails may limit direct answers during live practice to preserve retrieval benefits.
Termination
You may delete your account from account settings. If you have an active, trialing, or past-due subscription, cancel it in the billing portal first to avoid unexpected charges. We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these terms or to protect the service.
Disclaimers and limitation of liability
MasterTheBook is provided as is and as available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for loss of data or profits arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Changes and contact
We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date on this page. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Questions about these terms: legal@masterthebook.com.
